Want to get fit for the summer?! Body Conditioning Circuits (BCC) with Mikey are starting Sunday, May 19th, from 3-4pm, for 4 weeks!

• Prevent injury
• Improve posture
• Tone up
• Burn fat
• Strengthen core

Each class will follow a simple routine:

Introduction (explanation)

Warm-ups

Main Circuit (10 stations- anaerobic, aerobic, & LME (local muscular endurance) , working all parts of the body)

Core training (floor work/pilates)

Round 2 Main Circuit

Warm Down/Stretches

Cost: 4 weeks €30, drop-in €10.

What you need to bring: water, a towel, comfortable clothing and….a smile!

Exploration Dome- ‘The Enchanted Reef’

Some of you may have tried it, others may have missed it, but one thing’s for sure, the Exploration Dome at Seaworld (also known as a mobile planetarium) is a  mind-blowing, interactive experience for all of the family! And we’re going to have it in our Activity Centre this summer!

Following a brief introduction to the current night sky of stars and planets in the more conventional planetarium format, the Exploration Dome features Kaluoka’hina – The Enchanted Reef, a 30 minute movie with 3D effects.

Kaluoka’hina, undiscovered by mankind…hidden in the vast oceans of our planet, there where the depths of the seas guard their fascinating secrets: One of the most precious is “Kaluoka’hina”, a tropical coral reef – an enchantment lies over this peaceful place: mankind cannot find it. The reef’s colorful inhabitants have thus always lived in paradisiacal peace, until a volcanic catastrophe breaks the spell…

Now it’s up to Jake, a young sawfish, and his buddy Shorty, a lively reef fish, to restore the magic of their home Kaluoka’hina. Their only lead: an ancient legend that tells of touching the moon… But how is a fish supposed to touch the moon? This is just one of the intriguing puzzles that Jake and Shorty will have to solve on their most exciting adventure ever: the quest to save their beloved reef.

‘Energy 4 Life’ Fitness Challenge! (May 22)

Introducing……’Energy 4 Life’, a 6-week Fitness Challenge in which eight pillars of the Clare community, split into a team of males and a team of females,  get fit, work their butts off (and hopefully their abs, tri’s and bi’s) in the hopes of being crowned the winning team of their Fitness Challenges! All in aid of charity, ‘Energy 4 Life’ will kickstart on Wednesday, May 22.

Local Senator Martin Conway has bravely volunteered to sacrifice himself, filling one space on the male team. Inspired by his bravery (or perhaps to avoid Instructor Calie’s daily threats to whip him into shape) , our very own Joe Garrihy, manager of Lahinch Seaworld, has also offered himself up for this grueling challenge.

We need YOUR help in choosing the rest of our candidates. We would like you to nominate a community figure (with their permission of course!) and give one reason why they would be an ideal candidate for ‘Energy 4 Life’! All nominees will be put into a hat and selections will be made before May 17.

Use this as an opportunity to get in shape by volunteering yourself, or milk it for all the entertainment value its worth by nominating a local figure that you’d only love to see swap the suit for a pair of shorts and pump some iron in all their red-faced glory.

Beyond the entertainment aspect of this Challenge and the benefits of all participants getting Fit 4 Life, every participant will be linked to a charity of their choice which they can gain sponsorship for.

How will it work?

Once both teams have been selected, we will get all participants togged out in the gym, run a series of fitness assessments and get started!

Both teams will be assigned a mentor who will keep them on track with their fitness regime. Each week the teams will compete in a novelty fitness challenge earning them a large number of points. Outside of this, the participants will have a number of training/gym sessions per week guided by their fitness mentor. For every gym session they do they earn five points for their team. Week 3 equals Measurement Time! We will carry out another series of fitness assessments to see how our participants are faring out thus far…..and then we will really up the anti!!! The team with the most points at the end of Week 6 wins!

Where do YOU come into this?

All of you are invited to come to the weekly Team Challenges and shout your words of encouragement! In addition, Seaworld staff will be running around with a camera taking videos and snaps giving you the inside story on how our participants are handling these tests of endurance. We’ll capture the highs and the lows in one-on-one interviews, the sweat and the tears and the happier, healthier faces of the participants as they complete each gym session/ challenge in triumph! All of this will be posted daily on our Lahinch Seaworld website and our Facebook keeping you involved! These public figures are going to need your words of encouragement, your whoops and your cheers so we are asking you to be their fan-base, the best fans they could ask for! (We know you can do it!)

Hosted by our new expert instructors  Calie (nick-named the energizer bunny for a reason!!) and Paul (the HIIT man) in association with Gymworld Lahinch, EMC Dynamic Fitness and The Fitness Academy, Energy 4 Life will kickstart on Wednesday, May 22nd. Stay tuned!
